The Story Behind the Lens: My Recent Interview with Voyage Jacksonville
It isn’t every day that I get to step out from behind the camera and share a bit of my own story. Usually, I’m focused on finding the perfect "hero shot" for a new listing in St. Augustine or capturing the cinematic flow of a luxury home in Jacksonville. But recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the team at Voyage Jacksonville to talk about how I got started, the lessons I’ve learned shooting over 12,000 homes, and why I decided to pivot my business model to better serve my clients.
If you’ve ever wondered why I’m so passionate about "Commercial Art with a Purpose," or why I insist on being the one photographer on every single shoot, this interview really gets into the "why" behind 904 Real Estate Photography.
You can read the full interview on Voyage Jacksonville here, but I wanted to take some time to expand on a few of those themes right here on the blog.
It Started with Light and Water (Dallas, 2011)

My journey didn't actually start with houses. Back in 2011, while living in Dallas, I was obsessed with the way light interacted with surfaces: specifically water and landscaping. I started out shooting finished custom pools for friends. There’s a specific science to capturing a pool; you have to wait for the exact moment when the sun hits the tile and the reflection is just right.
It wasn't long before those same friends: many of whom were in real estate: asked if I could apply that same "eye" to their property listings. I quickly realized that real estate photography wasn't just about taking a picture of a room; it was about telling a story and creating an emotional response. If a buyer doesn’t feel something when they see a photo, they aren't going to book a showing.
I spent years in the Texas market, building a high-volume agency. At the time, I thought "success" meant scaling up. I had a team of employees, a fleet of gear, and a massive schedule. But as the business grew, I started to notice something: the quality wasn't the same. When you have a rotating door of photographers, you lose that personal touch and consistency that top-tier Realtors depend on.
The Move to Jacksonville and the "904" Rebrand
In 2017, I made the move to Northeast Florida. Jacksonville felt like home immediately, but I spent a few years really studying the local market before officially rebranding as 904 Real Estate Photography in 2020.
That rebrand wasn't just about a new name or a vibrant new logo. It was about a total shift in philosophy. I looked back at my time in Dallas and realized that the "big agency" model was broken for the client. When a Realtor hires a photography company, they shouldn't have to roll the dice on which "contractor" shows up at the door. They deserve the expert.

The "Owner Advantage": Why Smaller is Often Better
One of the key things we talked about in the Voyage Jacksonville interview was my choice to pivot back to a single-operator model. I call this the Owner Advantage.
When you book a shoot with 904 Real Estate Photography, you aren't getting a trainee or a part-time gig worker. You’re getting me: the owner with 15 years of experience and over 12,000 homes under my belt.
Why does this matter?
- Consistency: You know exactly what the photos will look like every single time. My "eye" for the hero shot remains the same.
- Accountability: If something isn't perfect, I’m the one you talk to. I handle the shoot, the editing, and the delivery.
- Expertise: Having shot everything from entry-level condos to multi-million dollar estates, I know how to navigate difficult lighting, cramped spaces, and "rainy day" surprises.
I’ve trimmed away the bloat of a big agency to focus on what actually matters: delivering incredible media that sells homes fast.
More Than Just Photos: A Full Media Suite
While photography is where it all started, the market has evolved. Today, I’m focused on being a "partner" in a Realtor’s marketing strategy. This means providing a comprehensive suite of tools that work together to stop the scroll.
Whether it’s FAA-compliant drone photography, cinematic video walkthroughs, or 3D immersive tours, everything I do is designed with the same "Commercial Art" mindset. I’m always looking for the flow of the floor plan and the features that will make a buyer fall in love.

The 904 Promise: Blue Skies and Next-Day Delivery
We live in Florida: it rains. A lot. But a rainy day shouldn't kill your listing timeline. One of the USPs I’m most proud of is our Blue Sky Guarantee. If it’s gray and gloomy during our shoot, I’ll replace the sky digitally for free so your listing always looks like a perfect Florida day.
I also understand the speed of the Jacksonville real estate market. That’s why I offer next-day delivery on almost everything. You shouldn't have to wait three days to get your listing live.
12,000 Homes Later: What I’ve Learned
Shooting 12,000+ homes teaches you things you can't learn in a classroom. You learn that the kitchen island is the heart of the home, so it needs the perfect angle. You learn that a wide-angle lens is a tool, not a crutch (you don't want to make a closet look like a ballroom: that just leads to disappointed buyers).
Most importantly, you learn that this business is about relationships. I’m not just a vendor on a checklist; I’m a part of your team. When my photos help you get a "Sold" sign in the yard, I’ve done my job.

Looking Ahead
The interview with Voyage Jacksonville was a great chance to reflect on the last 15 years, but I’m even more excited about what’s coming next for 904 Real Estate Photography. I’m constantly experimenting with new tech: like our Seasonal Grass Replacement and virtual decluttering: to give my clients an even bigger edge.
If you’re a Realtor, investor, or builder in Northeast Florida, I’d love to show you the difference that experience and consistency can make. Let’s grab a coffee or chat about your next listing.
Key Takeaways from the Journey:
- Quality Over Quantity: Bigger isn't always better. The "Owner Advantage" ensures the highest creative standards on every shoot.
- The Hero Shot Matters: Every home has a story; it’s my job to find the angle that tells it.
- Consistency is King: Realtors need a partner they can trust to deliver the same high-end results every time.
- Speed & Reliability: With next-day delivery and a Blue Sky Guarantee, your marketing stays on track regardless of the weather.
